I have lived in England for over 20 years, but am Northern Irish to the core (and also love the Irish Republic). I am responsible for putting together our Ireland Guides and as Reviews Editor, I get the chance to see some great concerts and shows . Fridays usually find me taking part in our Music Academy. I am also a Church Minister and Parish Councillor and am on the Leadership Team of my congregation. In my spare time, I am often found beside a race track, watching all forms of motorsport, at my local cinema, or with a guitar round my neck, writing and playing songs.

- "THE DUBLINERS ENCORE" AT BIRMINGHAM TOWN HALLI had been looking forward for some time to seeing this show and after my recent conversation with John Sheahan, the last surviving member of the original Dubliners, I was even more excited. The show, the brainchild of John and another musical legend, Phil Coulter (the Musical Director), is produced by John's daughter, Ceoladh and directed by Maurice Sweeney and recreates the sights and sounds...Please log in to like, share and comment!
- "FAIRYTALE OF NEW YORK" AT WYCOMBE SWAN THEATRE"A few years ago, my good friend, Ged Graham, had the idea to put together a musical which would combine Irish folk music, song and dance with the well known songs of the Christmas season. The result was "Fairytale Of New York" and it was a great pleasure to see it for the third time at the Wycombe Swan. My wife and daughter (who actually works at the theatre) attended with me and we all...
- "WIRED FOR SOUND" CLIFF RICHARD TRIBUTE AT SUTTON COLDFIELD TOWN HALLSir Cliff Richard has been a huge influence in my life, both musically and personally and I was really looking forward to this show. Jimmy Jermain sings, looks and even speaks like Cliff (he was even educated at the same school) , as he takes us through the many years and the varied performances of Cliff's career. From the early rock 'n roll era, through the Swinging Sixties, Eurovision and the...
- "CAKE INTERNATIONAL"/ "CREATIVE CRAFT"/"SIMPLY CHRISTMAS" AT THE N.E.C.Every year, I look forward to my visit to these shows which run concurrently at the N.E.C. It is great to see so much creative talent on display and I am always accompanied by my wife, who is accomplished in both baking and crafting and provides me with expert advice throughout . This year's shows were again excellent, with very high standards in each aspect. Speaking as someone...
- "A CHAT WITH JOHN SHEAHAN."It was a great pleasure recently to have a telephone chat with John Sheahan, the last surviving original member of the legendary Irish folk group, The Dubliners. I had met John in person on the group's 40th and 50th anniversary tours and our conversation this time consisted of sharing anecdotes, stories and even, poetry, as we reminisced about the halcyon days of "The Dubs" and our...
- "WALK RIGHT BACK-THE STORY OF THE EVERLY BROTHERS" AT LICHFIELD GARRICKEver since I was a boy, I have been familiar with the sound of the Everly Brothers and their combination of plaintive ballads (often dealing with the heartbreak of broken relationships) and more uptempo songs with rock 'n roll and country influences. The voices of Don and Phil blended beautifully to create a distinctive sound that was instantly recognisable. In "Walk Right Back," James...
- HORSE OF THE YEAR SHOW 2024I always look forward to early October and my annual visit to the Horse Of The Year Show and it was a special pleasure this year to be able to attend on the Saturday of the 75th anniversary. As usual, we were treated to a great variety of entertainment, including international and national showjumping, pony games, scurry racing and displays. Highlights included a victory for Amy Capper in...
- JENNY RYAN "OUT OF THE BOX" AT LICHFIELD GARRICK.Jenny Ryan is best known to us as "The Vixen" from I.T.V's "The Chase" and "Beat The Chasers." Her wide range of knowledge and sharp wit are a challenge to anyone with whom she comes face to face (I speak from personal experience, having been devoured by said Vixen on the "The Chase" in 2022). In her new show, "Out Of The Box," Jenny takes us into the relaxed atmosphere of her living room...
- "SISTER ACT." WALSALL OPERATIC SOCIETY AT LICHFIELD GARRICKAs a resident of the Walsall area, I am always keen to support the arts locally and I have to say that the Walsall Operatic Society's production of Sister Act at Lichfield Garrick was a thoroughly enjoyable experience. From start to finish, it captured the essence of the story and combined excellent singing with acting which combined the humorous with the serious. There were many fine...
- PAIRC FESTIVAL 2024Every August, I look forward to covering the Pairc Festival, Birmingham's annual celebration of Irish music and culture. As always, there was a great atmosphere as the crowds descended upon King's Heath and it was great to catch up with old friends and to make new ones. This year's line up contained a wide variety of artists and this was exemplified by the top of the bill performers, with...
