Doja Cat appeared to leave her chosen career this week after being chastised on social media for a canceled performance.
In a series of tweets, the musician expressed her frustrations, even changing her handle to “I quit.” The uproar started when Doja tweeted about being disappointed with her performance in Brazil, prompting a group of Paraguayan fans to question why she hadn’t apologized for the canceled show in their country.
The California-born rapper and singer wrote, ‘
IT’S GONE AND I DON’T GIVE A FUCK ANYMORE I FUCKIN QUIT I CAN’T WAIT TO FUCKING DISAPPEAR AND I DON’T NEED YOU TO BELIEVE IN ME ANYMORE.’
She added, ‘Everything is dead to me, music is dead, and I’m a fucking fool forever thinking I was made for this is a fucking nightmare unfollow me.’
Just moments later, she appeared to double down on her surprise declaration in a general tweet shared with her more than 4.8 million followers.
Due to a major storm, Doja Cat was forced to cancel her premiering performance at Paraguay’s Asunciónico festival recently. Some fans were disappointed that the 11-time Grammy nominee did not apologize or mention the canceled appearance on social media.
In comparison, after she, too, canceled her Asunciónico appearance, Miley Cyrus treated viewers to an impromptu performance of “Stay,” sung without musical accompaniment from her bathtub. The ballad was a No. 1 hit in Paraguay and appears on Cyrus’ 2010 album “Tamed.”
Doja Cat is still on the Lollapalooza Brazil 2022 lineup and is set to perform on Friday night in So Paulo.
She is also set to perform at the 2022 Grammy Awards in Las Vegas on April 3, where she is nominated for eight awards, including Album of the Year for “Planet Her.”
