US President Joe Biden encourages parents on Wednesday to get their children Covid-19 vaccines right away. Now authorized for kids 12 and older, dismissing their low risk of serious illness in the hope of stopping its spread to more vulnerable age groups. Munia Iffat reports
- After a CDC panel has voted to recommend use of Pfizer-BioNTech's Covid-19 vaccine in 12- to 15-year-olds. On Wednesday, Biden told reporters, “This is one more giant step in our fight against the pandemic.”
- The shot was already available to anyone over 16, and the FDA on Monday gave emergency authorization to expand eligibility down to the age of 12. “I encouraged each of them and their parents to get their vaccination shots right away,” Biden added.
- Biden set a goal of having 70% of American adults receive at least one dose of a Covid-19 vaccine by July 4. He said on Wednesday that the country will reach 60% by next week.
- The administration also informed that it would host events with celebrities and influencers to encourage teens to get vaccinated in the coming weeks.
Joe Biden expressed confidence that the ‘vast majority’ of Americans would get the vaccination.
