London is a city that celebrates diversity, and there are many events throughout the year that showcase the city’s rich cultural heritage. In July 2023, there are a number of events that will celebrate LGBTQ+ culture, women’s power, and Muslim culture.

Pride Parade in London 2023

London is home to a vibrant LGBTQ+ scene, with a wealth of queer bars, clubs, nights, and other spaces. Pride Month is when the city’s LGBTQ+ celebrations really take off, with a packed schedule of events, protests, and parties.

The highlight of Pride Month is the annual Pride Parade, which will once again start at Hyde Park Corner and end at Whitehall Place. Over 600 groups and 30,000 participants will take part, led by the mayor of London. There will be entertainment on five stages and a family area. And best of all, it’s free to watch.

When: Saturday, July 1, 2023

Time: 12:00 PM to 6:00 PM

Tickets: The parade is free to watch

The parade will start at Hyde Park Corner and end at Whitehall Place.

 

DIVAS: The Power and Creativity of Women in Popular Culture

Divas have been praised and criticized, but never ignored. From opera goddesses to global megastars, they have stood out from the crowd. The V&A’s DIVAS exhibition celebrates their power and creativity. Visitors will see iconic costumes and artifacts from the history of divas.

When: June 24, 2023 – April 7, 2024

Where: Victoria and Albert Museum, London

Time: 10:00am – 5:30pm (last entry 5:00pm)

Tickets: Tickets are £25 for adults, £20 for concessions, and £18 for children. Tickets can be purchased online or at the museum.

Highlight: The exhibition will feature over 250 objects from the history of divas, including costumes, artifacts, photography, and music. Some of the divas featured in the exhibition include:

A Kiki at Queer Dance Music Fest Body Movements

Body Movements is a two-day queer dance music festival in Los Angeles. It features up-and-coming and established queer artists, as well as workshops, panels, and art installations. The festival is a great opportunity to celebrate queer culture and dance the night away. It’s sure to be a fun and inclusive event, and I can’t wait to attend!

When: Saturday, July 29, 2023

Where: Hackney Wick, London, E15 2SJ, United Kingdom

Time: The festival runs from 11am to 11pm.

Tickets: Tickets are available for purchase on the Body Movements website. Prices start at £35 for a day ticket and £65 for a weekend pass.

Highlights: The festival will feature a lineup of over 40 queer, non-binary, and trans artists, including Introspekt, HALF QUEEN, Avalon Emerson, and Octo Octa. There will also be workshops, panels, and art installations.

The London Eid ul Adha Fair, Epsom Downs Racecourse

Inspiring Community Events will organize a free Eid event at Epsom Downs Racecourse. The event will bring together different businesses from the community under one roof. Guests can enjoy halal food and beverages, shop at Muslim-owned retail stores, and get their faces painted or play on bouncy castles.

When: July 9-10, 2023

Where: Epsom Downs Racecourse, Epsom, Surrey, KT18 5LQ, United Kingdom

Time: 10am to 6pm

Price: £10 for adults, £5 for children aged 5-15, free for children under 5

Highlight: The fair will feature a variety of stalls selling food, clothing, and gifts, as well as live entertainment, including music, dance, and comedy. There will also be a funfair with rides and games.

West London Eid Festival, Isleworth

Head to the West London Eid Festival on 8 July to celebrate Eid with different communities from across the country. The festival will have educational workshops, multicultural food stalls, and a bazaar to showcase different businesses’ goods.

Where: An Noor Cultural and Community Centre, 120 Shepherd’s Bush Green, London W6 7LP, United Kingdom

Time: 11am to 6pm

Tickets: Free

Highlights:

Educational workshops on a variety of topics, such as Islam, culture, and history.
