"SIR DAVID ATTENBOROUGH AT 100"

The title  "National Treasure" is one which is often used (and ocasionally, somewhat exaggerated) in today's world. However, it can surely be applied without question to Sir David Attenborough and especially on this day, as he celebrates his 100th birthday. The most famous naturalist in the world, a broadcaster and writer of many years of distinction, he has done probably more than anyone else to make us aware of the natural beauty, resources and of course, the wildlife of our planet. It is amazing that even at this advanced stage of his life, he continues to inspire and to entertain us.

This evening, the Royal Albert Hall will be filled as a public celebration of his landmark birthday takes place. Although he himself had imagined a quiet evening at home with a glass of wine, it is surely fitting that the nation says thank you to him in this special way. My own prayers and good wishes are with Sir David and I hope that we will be blessed by the legacy of his labours for many generations to come.
