"FIDDLER ON THE ROOF" AT BIRMINGHAM ALEXANDRA

Recently, my wife and I were treated to an early Christmas present from our daughter and had the opportunity to attend the Tuesday matinee of "Fiddler On the Roof." This fascinating musical is sent in the Russia of the early 1900's and chronicles the lives of a poor Jewish milkman and his family and friends, against the backdrop of pogroms against the Jews in the country. Having seen the late and legendary Topol playing the role of Tevye, the main character in the film version, I was looking forward very much to seeing the stage production  and I was not to be disappointed.

This was a most enjoyable presentation, with excellent vocals and music, as well as  acting which captured the spirit of the times and the political situation in the country, along with the romantic ups and downs of Tevye's daughters, all laced with some humour . Even a short delay due to a medical emergency in the audience didn't take away from our enjoyment of the production and thanks are also due to Lesley on the door, who was able to find better seating for us, in order to accommodate my wife, who is a wheelchair user.

I have enjoyed many shows at the Alexandra over the years, and this ranks among the best. I wish the cast and crew well for future performances and it was a privilege to be able to be at this one.
