"A CHRISTMAS CAROL" by A.M.C.S AT NORTON CANES HIGH SCHOOL

Twice a year, it is my pleasure to review productions by Aldridge Musical Comedy Society. It is an organisation which is based close to where I live and members of it are well known to me personally. I am  keen to support and encourage local talent and A.M.C.S. always come up with an entertaining and enjoyable show.

This November, we were treated to an interesting, pantomime style interpretation of "A Christmas Carol," written by society member, Richard Beckett, who also took on the role of Ebenezer Scrooge himself. The story was clearly recognisable as that originally presented to us by Charles Dickens, but with a fresh slant and hilarious comic turns as part of the package. This, combined with the usual well produced and performed musical fayre, made for a very pleasant evening.

All the principal players (and indeed, everyone involved) gave excellent performances and it is difficult to single anyone out, but I must give an honourable mention to Lucy Pountain (alias "Auntie Mistletoe"--the pantomime's very own "dame."). Yours truly happened to be sitting directly in front of the stage and said character managed to get him fairly involved in the proceedings at various points. As mentioned previously, I am known to certain members of the cast, but I won't point the finger at anyone. All in all, this added to my enjoyment of the evening (and hopefully, that of the audience).

Once again, a great show by A.M.C.S. and here's to their next event, "Little Shop Of Horrors" in June next year. Watch this space!
