"THE MCCARTNEY SONGBOOK" AT LICHFIELD GARRICK

I arrived at Lichfield Garrick last Wednesday (incidentally, the 83rd birthday of Sir Paul McCartney), only to hear the sad news of the passing a few months ago of Pete Jackson, creator and founder of the McCartney Songbook. My thoughts and prayers go out to all concerned in their sad loss, but I am delighted that Pete's wife, Hollie, has decided that the show must go on and it was an honour to be present at what was a fitting tribute to Pete and a great way to celebrate Paul's birthday.

The show covered much of Paul's long and distinguished career, with special focus on his years with The Beatles and Wings (my childhood and adolescence respectively). George King, who has played the role of Paul in Beatles tribute bands for several years, has stepped in to take the lead vocals and to play bass, guitar and piano and he gave a superb performance in every way, accompanied by the excellent musicians (Al, Jarrod, Mark and Ollie)  who are such an integral part of the show. It was great to clap and sing along to Beatles classics and Wings hits which have been the musical backdrop to so much of my life.

I am very pleased that this show is on the road again and I wish the team well for the rest of their tour. Long may they continue to keep Pete's memory and vision alive and to remind us of Paul's wonderful contribution to the world of music. . It was a privilege to be part of the audience at the Garrick and thanks as always to Chameleon Music Marketing/Prestige Productions for organising my visit.
