This month saw the 80th anniversary of V.E. Day and the ending of the war in Europe and it was great to have the opportunity to celebrate this by attending the Aldridge Musical Comedy Society's production of "Heroes & Sweethearts." Twice a year, it is my privilege to attend the shows put on by this local society, some of whom are known to me personally and I never fail to come away, having enjoyed an excellent evening of entertainment.

"Heroes & Sweethearts" took us back to the music and songs of those war years and we were treated to traditional British favourites such as "The White Cliffs Of Dover" and "We'll Meet Again," as well as the sounds from across the Atlantic of artists such as Glenn Miller (remember-"In The Mood" and other classics). A lovely variety, performed to a high standard by all involved. We were also able to enjoy some comedy, in particular, a sketch based on "Dad's Army," which included all those much-loved characters from the original. This was particularly special to me, as my own late father served in the Home Guard and often commented on how true to life "Dad's Army" was.

The whole evening was a worthy tribute to this landmark occasion and full marks to A.M.C.S. for putting on another great show. Here's to the next one!
