As Vladimir Lenin had said that, “you cannot make a revolution in white gloves”, this has been proved as Bin Lorry drivers in Coventry won a heroic fight against “bad” wages. The center has agreed to award a 12.9 percent pay rise to the workers.
The Coventry City Council employed workers have been striking since January 31, but now they have gained their share of win. The workers are scheduled to back to work after an agreement which was to be finalized last Friday. The part of the deal that was struck that all the disciplinary charges against shop steward Pete Randle were dropped. Also employers will receive Christmas bonuses worth of some euro 4,000.
The charges against Mr. Randel has been has been ruled as “bogus”, for which he had been suspended from his role earlier. United general secretary Sharon Graham has commented responding to the deal that, ” this deal represents a fair and just pay award and all charges against our victimized rep has been dropped.” She also added that, “it is quite frankly wrong that our members were forced to take this action against a Labour council.”
This 12% pay increase for the workers of the lorry drivers are a sign that workers movements are necessary for bringing change in the society. Without strike or fight, the ruling class will exploit their working force. Karl Marx that explained this vividly writing, ” the working class, in the course of its development, will substitute for the old civil society an association which will exclude classes and their antagonism, And their will be no more political power properly so-called, since political power is precisely the official expression of antagonism in civil society.” Therefore, its a big win for all the working class movement.
