The country experienced a total of 1915 MW of power cut on 19 July. On the first day of a new era of area-wise planned power cuts announced by the government, that many believed they has left behind for good. The gap between demand and supply is being met with the planned load shedding.

Dhaka metropolis and its adjoining areas have started facing power cuts from Tuesday morning, with distribution companies resorting to rationing of electricity to avert an energy crisis looming over Bangladesh. Following a high-level meeting at the prime minister’s office on yesterday, prime Minister’s Energy Advisor announced that Bangladesh government’s plan was to cut power daily for two hours. In this way it can tackle the energy crisis affecting the electricity production in the country.

Total Darkness

The government has also taken many steps for saving electricity, including closure of shopping malls and markets by 8pm and the restricted use of air-conditioners. Plans are also taken to limit office hours and keep fuel outlets closed one day every week. Diesel- run power plants to be remained closed from today. The state minister said, “we have a gas crisis. Due to this reason as well, electricity generation has decreased”. Bangladesh is facing massive energy crisis due to Russia and Ukraine war, due to which people are suffering in the hot and humid weather from periodical power cuts. There can be alternate ways for producing electricity without the use of gas, diesel or any other renewable resources.

Solar Power Plants

There is abundance of sun in earth and if used wisely, it can be used for production of electricity in countries. The largest solar furnaces are in Britain. But for Third- world countries like, Bangladesh it can be quite costly for the production of electricity. Also it not be so much cost- effective as that of gas, or Bio-gas.

Electricity from Humid Air

Metals can spontaneously develop an electrical charge at high humidity. When ions are passed from the surface to the small droplets of water suspended in the air. Depending upon the type of metal, a positive or negative charge will occur. This method can be cost-effective, as Bangladesh is a humid country.

Hydro-Power Plants

Bangladesh is land of water. Hydro-power plants which are generated from the speed of the water flow can be one of the very cost-effective way and also green method of electricity generation. The turbine which is connected to the reservoir of the rivers are turned when water is made to flow.

power cuts

These are some of the way in which sustainable and green electricity can be generated without the emission of any harmful gases. If this ways can be implanted then energy crisis can be reduced and also people will not be suffering the heatwave and power cuts.
