Exciting news from Monkey World! At the end of 2024, the park welcomed another young orang-utan to its crèche—just a month after the last arrival!

Meet Kiwi, a female Bornean orang-utan born at Rio Safari Elche in Spain. Sadly, she was rejected by her mother shortly after birth, and despite efforts to reunite them, keepers had to hand-rear her to ensure her survival. Now, she has found a new home at Monkey World’s orangutan crèche, the only one of its kind in Europe.

Kiwi joins a growing family of young orangutans, cared for by Oshine, a rescued Bornean orangutan who has become a dedicated foster mother. Just before Kiwi’s arrival, the nursery also welcomed Sibu, a three-month-old male from Dublin Zoo. With two little ones joining the group so close together, the keepers certainly have their hands full!

Monkey World is committed to giving orphaned and rejected orangutans a second chance. Visitors can witness these amazing animals grow, play, and learn the vital skills needed for adulthood.
