Shireen Abu Akleh is dead; Israeli forces have killed her. This is where I should probably stop writing out of frustration, fear, rage, and insecurity. But no this is the time to write even more; to be more active; to be more critical of non-democratic forces like Israel.

Who

Abu Akleh was an experienced Palestinian American correspondent for Al Jazeera. For about three decades, she voiced the sufferings of Palestinians.

Shireen Abu Akleh

How

Abu Akleh, on Wednesday, covered the raid of the Israeli army where they attacked the Jenin refugee camp. The next what we know is she is no more with us. According to a video, she wore a press uniform and was found dead. There was a single round shot in her head. It seems that an Israeli sniper took that shot.

Abu Akleh, on Wednesday, covered the raid of the Israeli army where they attacked the Jenin refugee camp.

Why

It is not an accident; not an out-of-the-way occurrence. This killing of Abu Akleh is a part of what has been happening timelessly. This is a part of all the calculated Israeli attacks on the media staff, specifically the Palestinians.

Shireen Abu Akleh was not just a human being, a woman, a journalist, and a Palestinian: she was and still is the light bearer of human rights, justice, a voice against discrimination, political exploitation, and a victim of a system that does not want people to know the truth.
