According to the reports, governments all over the world are willingly returning to the pre-pandemic circumstances. They have relaxed preventive procedures, as well as lifted restrictions. The professionals think that it can be hazardous for the safety of everyone. They think governments are risking the safety of the people.

The Concerns

Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus, WHO’s Director-General, expressed his concern regarding the covid-19 related difficulties because governments all over the world have started pulling back their investment. Though they all knew that there is need for new investments in advanced treatment to save lives.

The Corruption

He also shares his concerns regarding the issue of corruption of big corporations. He says that WHO wants prices of lifesaving advanced treatments to be within the reach of everyone. Otherwise, it would be a moral failure.

Double Trouble

Dr. Abraar Karan, a fellow of infectious disease at Stanford University, clarifies why Ghebreyesus said that we are playing with fire by returning to pre-pandemic normalcy. He says that, in South Africa, there are variants like BA.4 and BA.5. With time, we may as well see more variants. If the governments get back to normalcy, and we get hit once again it would be catastrophic because it takes time to develop a new treatment for a new variant.

With time, the immunity system wanes. So, there is a possibility that the world would see people who are previously vaccinated are also getting affected.
