At least 30 people were reported to possess been killed and dozens more injured in Pakistan’s Sindh province after an express train derailed and collided with Sir Sayyed Express passenger train moving on a parallel track.
The incident unfolded early Monday near the town of Daharki, in Ghotki District of Pakistan’s southeast Sindh province. Footage of the incident shared on social media shows crumpled carriages overturned and lying on one side, as people surround them, apparently checking out survivors.
The tragedy is reported to have taken place in Pakistan where dozens of people have also been injured. Some unconfirmed reports on social media and on local news sites claim that the crash took place between the Millat Express and Sir Syed Express in Daharki city, Pakistan.
Videos, photos have been shared online appearing to show the aftermath of the disaster, with carriages having come off the rails and now resting on their side.
Ghotki Deputy Commissioner Usman Abdullah said that around 13 to 14 bogies had derailed in the accident while six to eight were "completely destroyed".
“Emergency had been declared at hospitals in Ghotki, Dharki, Obaro, and Mirpur Mathelo. It wasn’t immediately clear what had caused the derailment and the subsequent collision”, Abdullah added.
Rescue teams are informed to have been dispatched from Sukkur and Sadiqabad and are working at the scene to free those still trapped.
