Understanding basic 4/4 rhythm on the guitar with simple chord strumming:

Rhythm Pattern: D down U up D down U up
This pattern follows a steady 4/4 time signature, where each measure has four beats. “D” stands for downstroke, and “U” for upstroke. It gives a balanced, even rhythm and is widely used in pop and rock songs.

Start with a Simple Chord
Choose an easy chord to start with, like G or C. These are straightforward and help you focus on keeping the rhythm steady rather than changing chords.

Practice the Downstroke and Upstroke

• Downstroke (D): Strum downward with a relaxed wrist, hitting all the strings.
• Upstroke (U): Strum upward lightly, usually hitting fewer strings.
  This keeps the rhythm dynamic and prevents it from sounding too heavy.

Keep the Tempo Steady
Aim to keep a consistent pace as you practice. Use a metronome if needed, set to around 60–80 beats per minute to start.

Count Out Loud
Saying “1, 2, 3, 4” while strumming can help you feel the beat. Each downstroke happens on the counts (1 and 3), and each upstroke on the “and” (2 and 4).
