Countries under Sanctions

Russian- Ukraine war has no limitations and as well no end. As Gorge Orwell had said in his book, “big brother is watching you”, Big Brother in this case becomes America. One of the wealthiest countries in the world, and also the ruling ideology and hegemony which controls everything from monetary policy to culture.

Russia has been sanctioned by America and its allies for invading Ukraine and attacking the country. Though Russia- Ukraine war has been turned into a proxy war by America and its allies. As T.S. Eliot had said about the war, “in reality, any unjust war is merely piracy”. And this war has turned into a conspiracy. Economic sanctions are a way for large governments to exert their disapproval over one another.

While wars are costlier both economically and politically, economic sanctions tend to be somewhat less tangible, at least for the country doing the sanctioning. It is a war without any arms and ammunition yet the effect is devastating. Russians have felt that worldwide, and also is still being inflicted with the same sanctioning. But for the country sanctioned, the results can be enormous and long-lasting.

Some of the countries which have been sanctioned by the US and its allies marginalize and alienate from other countries. The US sanctions countries that sponsor terrorism or perpetrate human rights violations on their people.

Cuba

One of the U. S’s longest-standing and most well-known sanctions is against one of its neighbors to the south, Cuba. Since the Cuban dictator took power, the U.S has had trade embargoes. While Americans aren’t generally allowed to trade or travel with Cuban interests. America has ensured that a number of exemption exists for humanitarian work and visiting relatives.

Iran

Following the Iranian Revolution of 1979, the Western-friendly shah of Iran was deposed in favor of a theocratic government. The Iranian Hostage Crisis and other ensuing events pushed the U.S. to levy a trade embargo on the Middle Eastern Nation. Sanctions persist with increasingly tenuous political relations, the sponsoring of terrorism, and debates over the enrichment of uranium.

North Korea

The country is arguably the most brutally affected by U.S economic sanctions. North Korea’s battles with the US started in the 1950s with the United States’ entry into the Korean war. North and South Korea continues to be at war albeit under a ceasefire since 1953. And the U.S maintains stringent trade restrictions on the country.

Syria

As one of the nations that former UN Ambassador John Bolton named as “beyond the axis of evil”. Syria has had contentious relations with the United States because of its position as a sponsor of terrorism. As a result, the US has strong trade restrictions on the country. Barring major exports and financial services for individuals or organizations linked to terror.
