The Long March 5B rocket which carried a Chinese space station module has been dropped into low Earth orbit, and now it’s risking to crash back down.
Last week the rocket has successfully launched the Tianhe module, which will be going to become the living quarters of the future Chinese Space Station (CSS). But the 30-meter long rocket has reached orbit and is now one of the largest ever launches to make an uncontrolled re-entry. Now the rocket appears to possess fallen into an orbit that would see it plunge towards the world.
As it’s now falling to Earth, it's being tracked as it does so it’s possible to the Earth ahead of it burning up and pieces possibly hitting the ground.
There are fears that the rocket could land on an inhabited area; the last time an extended March rocket was launched in May 2020, debris, which was reported to fall on villages in the Ivory Coast. Scientists still do not yet know when it will fall, but it is likely to do so before 10 May 2021.
