Kolkata Knight Riders and Royal Challenges Bangalore set to play an IPL match in Ahmedabad on Monday night, but that game will not take place as scheduled. Kolkata’s players Varun Chakravarthy and Sandeep Warrier have tested positive for COVID-19.
According to recent reports, Australia’s vice-captain Pat Cummins and other members of Kolkata’s squad are isolating after two teammates contracted the coronavirus, forcing Indian Premier League organizers to postpone a match.
While all the KKR players have been a part of the IPL bio-bubble since the commencement of the season, Varun Chakravarthy recently left the bubble for a shoulder scan, according to ESPNcricinfo. It might be possible, during this period the spinner could have been exposed to the virus. The right-arm fast bowler Sandeep Warrier also has reportedly tested positive for the virus along with his co-player, but their other teammates have returned negative tests so far.
Amid the crisis, IPL tournament has plowed on despite criticism on social media. IPL will continue as scheduled with the final in Ahmedabad on 30 May, said the Indian cricket board.
