For some years now, it has been my pleasure to work with Chameleon Music Marketing/Prestige Productions in promoting and reviewing their excellent shows. As we come to the end of 2023, I want to look back at these and to look forward to new events in 2024.
My good friend, Ged Graham, has been responsible for two of these shows. "Seven Drunken Nights-The Story Of The Dubliners" takes us through 50 years of Ireland's most famous folk group and is a great feast of nostalgia, with music and song from each era and all the different line ups in the group's history, combined with Ged's inimitable ability to link it all together in the form of a story.
"Fairytale Of New York" is another of Ged's creations and as the title suggests, this is a Christmas musical, but one with a distinctly Irish folk flavour. It is amazing to hear some well known Christmas songs as they have never been heard before and to enjoy the combination of these with traditional song and dance.
" Some Guys Have All The Luck" features Paul Metcalfe in the role of Rod Stewart and is an exciting reflection on the songs that have brought Rod fame throughout his career. It has been endorsed by Rod's own family and is well worth a visit.
I am now looking forward to a new experience in 2024, as I go to review the "Johnny Cash Roadshow Sin And Redemption Tour" in February. As a lifelong admirer of Cash's work, I am filled with eager anticipation.
It has been a privilege to work with Chameleon/Prestige and special mention must go to Sophie and Chloe at Chameleon's office in Whitby. Both have been unfailingly courteous and helpful in working with me to promote events and to give me the opportunity to review them. I look forward to continuing this partnership in the years that lie ahead. In the meantime, check out these great productions (and others) and find out for yourself what I am talking about.
