In the heart of a deeply challenging humanitarian crisis in Gaza, a testament to the resilience of the human spirit is taking shape as acts of compassion and unity surface from diverse corners of the globe. The situation in Gaza has long been a source of concern, characterized by its complexity and the suffering endured by its residents. Yet, even in the face of such adversity, there’s a growing sense of shared responsibility and a commitment to making a difference.

Musicians Unite for Charity Concert ‘To Gaza From Dhaka’

Dhaka-based musicians are coming together for a charity concert named ‘To Gaza From Dhaka’ in a show of solidarity with Gaza. The platform ‘Artistes against Genocide’ is organizing this event, scheduled to take place at the Dhaka University central sports ground on November 24.

According to a spokesperson, Ahmed Hasan Sunny, approximately 15 bands and musicians will be gracing the stage at the concert.

In this regard singer Ahmed Hasan Sunny said,” We have always been talking about stopping the genocide. This is our initiative to stand by Palestine. Everyone can participate here.”

Confirmed participants include Maksud O Dhaka, Zohad Reza Chowdhury of Nemesis, Carnival, Masha Islam, rapper Shafayat, and Aseer Arman. In the coming days, more bands and artists will be finalized for the performance.

Notably, all participating bands and artists have generously chosen not to charge for their performances. The entire proceeds from the concert will be dedicated to assisting the residents of Gaza who have been affected by ongoing challenges.

Ahmed Hasan Sunny, cartoonist Morshed Mishu, and art director Ranjan Rabbani represent the platform ‘Artistes against Genocide.’ Furthermore, alongside the concert, Morshed Mishu plans to create several ‘To Gaza From Dhaka’ graffiti in various alleys of Dhaka city in the upcoming week.

This charity concert and artistic initiative stand as a meaningful gesture of support and empathy for the people of Gaza from the Dhaka-based music and arts community.

8,000+ Artists Demand Gaza Ceasefire

Over 8,000 artists, writers, and cultural workers from across the globe have joined forces in an open letter, issuing a stark warning about the ongoing crisis in Gaza, which they describe as a genocide. The letter emphasizes the urgent need for an immediate ceasefire.

This collective action follows similar statements, including one by more than 2,000 British filmmakers, artists, actors, curators, and playwrights that recently came to light.

Renowned figures such as Nan Goldin, Barbara Kruger, Kara Walker, Michael Rakowitz, Laura Poitras, Rachel Kushner, Hari Kunzru, Brian Eno, Jarvis Cocker, Mati Diop, Cecilia Vicuña, Christina Sharpe, Judith Butler, and many others have signed the letter.

The letter primarily addresses the arts community, calling for an end to what they term “institutional silence” regarding the crisis that continues to affect the 2.3 million Palestinians in the occupied and besieged Gaza Strip. This powerful appeal underscores the need for global awareness and action in the face of the humanitarian crisis in Gaza.

The statement makes the forthright declaration that, “We support Palestinian liberation and call for an end to the killing and harming of all civilians, an immediate ceasefire, the passage of humanitarian aid into Gaza, and the end of the complicity of our governing bodies in grave human rights violations and war crimes.”

These initiatives, whether through the universal language of music or the power of collective advocacy, exemplify the resilience of humanity in the face of adversity.
