UNRWA Warns of Fuel Depletion in Gaza

Gaza’s hospitals have issued alerts about the possibility of closure if additional fuel is not provided, while other essential provisions like water, medication, and food remain in short supply.

The United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees had previously stated that it would be unable to carry out humanitarian missions beyond Wednesday night. This predicament stems from the agency’s need for fuel to facilitate transportation, water desalination, and the operation of medical equipment.

Overnight, U.N. Secretary-General Antonio Guterres cautioned that the situation is worsening with each passing hour.

UN relief agency says Gaza shelters four times over capacity

The United Nations Agency for Palestine Refugees (UNRWA) has issued a warning that its shelters in the Gaza Strip are currently accommodating four times their intended capacity due to an influx of refugees resulting from the Israel-Hamas conflict.

In a social media post on Wednesday, the agency reported sheltering nearly 600,000 internally displaced individuals across its 150 facilities, with many people resorting to sleeping in the streets due to the overwhelming demand for facilities.

In a prior warning, UNRWA emphasized the essential need for the delivery of critical fuel supplies for medical facilities, water desalination, and transportation to Gaza, highlighting the potential compromise of its operations. UNRWA raised this concern in anticipation of possible disruptions extending beyond Wednesday night.
