The EU is reforming — around the radical right

The European Union is undergoing a reformation, but it is not the kind of reformation that liberals and social democrats had hoped for. Instead, the EU is becoming more conservative, more nationalist, and more militaristic. This is due in large part to the rise of the radical right in Europe.

In recent years, the radical right has made significant gains in elections across Europe. In Italy, the far-right Brothers of Italy party is now in government. Also In Poland, the ruling Law and Justice party is increasingly authoritarian. And has implemented a number of policies that discriminate against women and minorities. And in Hungary, the far-right Fidesz party has consolidated its power and has become a close ally of Russia.

The rise of the radical right has forced the EU to make concessions to these parties. In June, the EU agreed to a new migration policy. Which designed to make it easier to deport refugees and migrants. This policy was a major victory for the radical right, which has long called for stricter immigration controls.

The EU is also becoming more militaristic. In recent years, the EU has increased its defense spending and has developed a number of new military capabilities. This militarization driven by the fear of Russia and the rise of China. However, it also supported by the radical right, which sees the military as a way to defend European values from supposed threats from outside the continent.

The reformation of the EU around the radical right is a worrying development. It is a sign that the EU is becoming less democratic and more authoritarian. It is also a sign that the EU is becoming less open and more hostile to outsiders. This is a dangerous trend, and it is one that the left must oppose.

The implications for the left

The rise of the radical right in Europe has a number of implications for the left. First, it means that the left can no longer rely on the EU to promote progressive values. The EU is now a vehicle for the radical right, and it is likely to become even more so in the years to come.

Second, the rise of the radical right means that the left must prepared to fight for its values on a national and international level. The left cannot afford to cede ground to the radical right, or it will lose the battle for the future of Europe.

Third, the rise of the radical right means that the left must build new alliances. The left cannot defeat the radical right on its own. It needs to build alliances with other progressive forces, such as the trade unions, the environmental movement, and the peace movement.

The rise of the radical right is a challenge for the left, but it is also an opportunity. The left can use this challenge to build a new progressive movement that can challenge the status quo and create a more just and equitable world.thumb_upthumb_downshareGoogle it
