Instead of naturally progressing through maps, players frequently rush from one location to another simply searching for the next city. Because city maps generate significantly higher profits, ordinary maps become much less attractive by comparison.
Cities also create awkward interactions with mechanics like Grand Mirrors and Head of the King placement. Planning optimal routes becomes frustrating, especially when valuable map layouts fail to align with city locations. These systems feel disconnected from one another and could benefit from better integration in future patches.
Biome bonuses create similar concerns. Certain farming strategies become heavily dependent on finding the "correct" biome instead of simply enjoying gameplay. High-end players often spend considerable time searching for ideal map layouts before actually playing the content. Casual players rarely notice these systems, while experienced players view them as unnecessary obstacles. Simplifying biome bonuses into permanent Atlas choices could preserve strategic depth while removing unnecessary inconvenience.
Another area that deserves attention is overall endgame difficulty. While accessibility is important, many experienced players feel that Path of Exile 2 has gradually become easier with each update. Boss health reductions, lower encounter difficulty, and various balance changes have made many fights significantly less threatening than before. The game still lacks true pinnacle challenges similar to Uber Bosses found in the original Path of Exile. Introducing optional high-difficulty encounters would provide veteran players with meaningful long-term goals while leaving existing content accessible for newer players.
Map crafting also became more cumbersome with the recent omen changes. Requiring multiple omens where previously only one was necessary increases preparation time without adding meaningful gameplay. These adjustments feel like additional complexity for its own sake rather than genuine improvements to player experience.

The endgame feels more complete, build diversity is stronger than ever, and the Atlas system finally offers meaningful customization. Although tablets, cities, biome mechanics, and endgame difficulty still require refinement before Version 1.0, the game's direction is extremely promising.
