The newest trend among Gen Z

Gen Z has recently shifted from maximal Y2K trends to more lowkey and wearable styles. Some people have opposed this shift, but it is also seen as a sign of Gen Z’s growing maturity and sophistication. They are no longer interested in flashy trends, but instead want clothes that are both stylish and practical.

The trend towards minimalism is also reflected in the luxury fashion market. Brands like The Row and Khaite are now producing simple, logo-less pieces that are in high demand. This is a change from the past, when luxury brands focused more on flashy logos and over-the-top designs.

The 2020 pandemic is likely the reason for this shift. The pandemic stripped people of control and agency, and many Gen Z-ers are looking for clothes that will make them feel grounded and comfortable. Minimalist clothes offer a sense of simplicity and calmness that is appealing in these uncertain times.

Items Defining the Trend:

1. Sleek Maxi Skirts

Micro minis haven’t been completely eliminated, but they have taken a backseat in popularity compared to the preference for long column skirts.

2. Oversize Blazers

Millennials have been swift to draw parallels between Gen Z’s affinity for business casual attire and the trend in the mid-2000s when blazers were a clubbing staple. Their observation holds merit. Nonetheless, this iteration leans towards a slightly looser and understated form, with a focus on neutral hues. While it remains a classic example of tailoring, the preferred fit and shape are likely to evolve as fashion trends cycle through.

3. Puddle Pants

In order to prevent an overly formal appearance, relaxed trousers introduce a casual and carefree element to an ensemble that might include dressier items.

4. Logo-less Handbags

Owning the finest handbag isn’t synonymous with having the largest or most vibrant logo. Rather, it pertains to the bag’s subtly fashionable characteristics

5. Ballet Flats

When picturing a luxurious appearance, towering heels are no longer the image that comes to mind. The focus has shifted to embracing a timeless set of ballet flats.

In the past, minimalism was often seen as a sign of poverty or lack of creativity. However, Gen Z is redefining minimalism as a luxury. They are choosing to invest in high-quality, timeless pieces that will last for years to come. This is a sign of their maturity and their desire to create a more sustainable future.
