রক্ত পতাকা হাতে একজন মানুষ দাঁড়িয়ে আছে। এই পোস্টারটি নিষিদ্ধ ছিল সেকেন্ড রাইখের সময় কিন্তু তারপর এটাই হয়ে ওঠে আন্তর্জাতিক মহিলা দিবসের একটি উজ্জ্বলময় চিত্র। ১৯০৯ সালে মার্কিন যুক্তরাষ্ট্রের নিউ ইয়র্কেও পালিত হয়েছিল আন্তারজাতিক মহিলা দিবস যার নেতৃত্ব দিয়েছিল সোশ্যালিস্ট পার্টি অফ আমেরিকা। আজ ৮ই মার্চ ছিল ১৯১৭ সালের সেই দিন, যেদিন হাজার হাজার মহিলা শ্রমিকরা তাদের কারখানা থেকে বেরিয়ে এসেছিলো রাশিয়ার জারতন্ত্রের বিরুদ্ধে জনগর্জন করতে। এই অসংখ্য রাশিয়ার অগ্নিকন্যাদের দেখে অনুপ্রাণিত হয়েছিল লক্ষ লক্ষ পুরুষ শ্রমিক যারা তাদের পতাকা নিয়ে বেরিয়ে এসে রুশিয়ার বরফে ঢাকা মৃত্তিকাকে লাল করে দিয়েছিল ও শুরু হয়ে গিয়েছিল প্রথম রুশ বিপ্লবের আন্দোলন। লিওন ট্রটস্কি বলেছিলেন :
8th March was International Woman's Day and meetings and actions were foreseen. But we did not imagine that this 'Women's Day' would inaugurate the revolution. Revolutionary actions were foreseen but without a date. But in the morning, despite the orders to the contrary, textile workers left their work in several factories and sent delegates to ask for the support of the strike… which led to mass strike... all went out into the streets.
