  • Oxygen Supply is in a state of panic; In Delhi

Delhi warns hospitals running out of oxygen amid India’s devastating Covid19 wave. Demand double as pandemic spreads faster than ever; supply to industries mostly halted to meet medical needs.

Supply of medical oxygen to public hospitals is under strain as the demand for the life-sustaining gas has doubled over the last few weeks, posing new challenges in the battle against the second wave of the coronavirus infections.
Amidst heightened demand for oxygen, most suppliers have already stopped supplying oxygen to industries, dedicating all its production for hospitals treating Covid-19 patients.
With the second wave being much stranger than the first, more and more patients are in need of oxygen support as the highly transmissible virus, fueled by new strains, is infecting lungs severely, causing serious breathing problems for many, hospital sources said.
Uninterrupted oxygen supply is extremely crucial in saving lives of critical coronavirus patients. Most patients are coming with severe shortness of breath and need oxygen via a high-flow nasal cannula, they said.
Officials at the Directorate General of Health Services said around 100 tonnes of oxygen are required every day to ensure uninterrupted supply at government hospitals.
The demand for medical oxygen in Covid hospitals has almost doubled of late. To meet this demand, hospitals are now giving more priority to producing medical oxygen than industrial oxygen.
Delhi’s government issued a call for help on social media cause most of the hospitals almost lost their hope.
The state government said every third person tested for coronavirus was found positive.

  • Covid19 impact: Liverpool accounts reveal £46m pre-tax loss

Liverpool has reported a £59m and match-day revenue by £13m in the first three months of the pandemic on Tuesday. The accounts reveal £46m pre-tax loss and early impact of Covid crisis. Reports Munia Iffat.
    • Liverpool’s latest accounts have revealed a report that a £46million pre-tax loss for the financial year ending May 2020 which equates to an £88m negative swing from their position just over 12 months ago.
    • Their Premier League season being suspended in March 2020 and completed behind closed doors in July.
    • During this period four fewer Premier League home games meant match-day revenue declined by £13m to £71m.

    • Managing director Andy Hughes said, “This financial reporting period was up to May 2020 so approaching a year ago now. It does, however, begin to demonstrate the initial financial impact of the pandemic and the significant reductions in key revenue streams.”
    • “We can now look ahead to the conclusion of this season and hopefully a more normal start to next season,” he added.
The loss of Liverpool’s was cushioned, however, by strong commercial performance. Eight new partnerships, sponsorship renewals with Nivea and Carlsberg, record sales of the new Nike home kit and new retail stores in Thailand, Singapore and Vietnam helped increase commercial revenue by £29m to £217m.

  • BRIT awards to host 4,000 audiences as part of COVID research

A live audience of 4,000 people will attend the BRIT awards on 11 May in London as part of a government-led research program into how crowds can safely return to mass participants’ events. It would be the first major indoor music event with a live audience as the country emerges from COVID19 lockdown.
The awards will be held on next month which is pushed back from the traditional February date because of the pandemic. The hope of organizers was always to have some kind of live audience for a show which will feature performances by Dua Lipa, Headie One and Arlo Parks. 2,500 tickets are being made available to key workers from greater London, who can apply via a ballot system. They will not have to wear face masks inside the arena but will have to provide proof of a negative lateral flow test result to enter the venue.
The Department for Digital, Culture, Media and Sport (DCMS) announced on Thursday that the Brits will be joining events such as the current world’s snooker championships in Sheffield’s Crucible theatre as a pilot in the government’s events research program.

Geoff Taylor, chief executive of the British Phonographic Industry and the BRITs said, “not only will we be celebrating the brilliant music and artists that have helped us through the pandemic, but we hope it will provide a path for the return of live music that fans and artists have so sorely missed.”

The awards are due to be hosted by Jack Whitehall for the fourth year running and will be broadcast live on ITV.
