  • WHAT a coincident, I find myself attending a course in Fircroft College. George Cadbury Jnr, founder of Cadbury Chocolate, turned his house in to a College in 1909. This was for his workers, encouraging them to increase their knowledge and skills to help them to meet their potential and pass their learning on to their comrades. Deep in the village his house is the College, next to it Student Accommodation, transforming lives for a better world.

  • Legendary Band Moheener Ghoraguli Tapas Bapi Das' last founding member passes away.

Tapas Bapi Das, the sole remaining founder member of the pioneering Indian Bangla rock band Moheener Ghoraguli and famous composer, guitarist, and music aficionado, died on Sunday morning after a battle with lung cancer. According to many media sources, he died at the SSKM Medical College and Hospital in Kolkata, West Bengal.

Since 1974, Moheener Ghoraguli's band Tapas has transformed Bangla music with a unique blend of baul, jazz, folk, and rock music supplemented with beautiful, soulful sounds and profound lyrics. Tapas was one of West Bengal's most admired painters.

He'd been fighting lung cancer for a time and was now in the third stage, undergoing chemotherapy. Since the news of his sickness surfaced in January, artists in both West Bengal and Bangladesh have been soliciting cash for his treatment, with the West Bengal government overseeing his care.

On July 14, a fundraiser concert with 40 famous Bangladeshi performers was set to take place at Dhaka's Liberation War Museum.

Tapas was born on September 22, 1954, in Kolkata, and was one of the original members of Moheneer Ghoraguli, along with Gautam Chattopadhyay, Ranjon Ghoshal, Pradip Chatterjee, Biswanath Bishu Chattopadhyay, Tapesh Bandopadhyay, and Abraham Mazumdar. This original lineup remained in place until 1978.

Tapas became the creator and mentor behind the next-generation Bangla band Moheen Ekhon O Bondhura in 2015, after the band disbanded.

Tapas is listed as a co-lyricist, composer, and performer on numerous Moheener Ghoraguli songs, including Haay, Bhalobasi, Bheshe Ashey Kolkata, Shudhijon Shono, Ayee Surey Bohudurey, and others.

'Even though he lost his battle with cancer, he at least got to know about this initiative, and he expressed his joy when we first discussed this concert with him,' Eventholic, the organizer of the scheduled fundraising concert in Bangladesh for the legendary artiste, said on its official Facebook page. We also had him sign some t-shirts last night.'

'A tribute concert will undoubtedly take place, since we genuinely want to stand beside his wife, Sutapa Das, and plans will be announced in two days,' said Sutapa Das. 'The show must go on,' the message states.

  • From old era to new era legacy continues.

Last friday night, International Convention City Bashundhara hall 2 was like full of festive mood as some of the country's finest bands from old era to new era —Ark, Artcell, Nemesis, Highway , Indalo, Karnival,Dads in the park and many more—assembled to give audiences a performance to remember.

The concert, "Mixtape Vol I", was organised by Dhaka Broadcast, in association with Skitto sim Although, the day-long event began at 3:00pm on Friday, many young people had begun gathering outside the venue as early as possible

indie-rock band, Dads in the Park famously known for their duo band set-up opened up the show, performing their hit songs Lullaby, Pareidolia, Afeenolove and their newly released song in to the iris.

As more music loving people entered the hall, Highway took to stage, and the crowd's energy skyrocketed with their heartfelt songs. Following their performance, Karnival and Indalo shuffled through their songs, taking the audience on a journey through their discographies.

More than 4,000 people had shown up for the concert, and this showed when they began singing along with Ashes, to fan favourite songs like, "Dhulabali", "Tamak", and "Shey Amare".

Ashes was followed by Nemesis, and by then, the crowd was singing along with whichever song was playing, in unison. Afterwards, Artcell rocked the stage with their power-packed performance, getting the crowd to tap into as much of their energy as they had left. As always crowed favourite dhukkho bilash played on stage everyone started singing with the band.
However, the moment Ark stepped onto the stage, with Hasan welcoming everyone, the crowd went absolutely crazy.

Ark's intense energy and passion even brought many in the audience to tears. The band performed their hit songs, "Protisruti", "Sweety", "Eto Koshto Keno", and many more. The concert ended with the fan favourite "Ja Re Ja".

Firday night experience was absolutely amazing. The show took us back to our college days. The young crowd carried the same craze we had for concerts back then. The crowd was very specific and clean, their response was spectacular," said Hasan, frontman of Ark.

"If we had not performed at Mixtape Vol I, I would have never guessed that the younger fans would vibe with our songs. Now, we have a few shows lined-up, which will take place outside of Dhaka. We look forward to performing on a regular basis from now on," he added
