July is named after Julius Caesar, a Roman leader who modified the Gregorian calendar. Before the name change, July was known as Quintilis, the Latin word for five, as it was the fifth month on the calendar. Caesar added the months of January and February to the calendar, and the Julian calendar is still in use today.
