I am always keen to support local participation in the arts and I was delighted when our Gilbert & Sullivan Society kindly agreed to my request to review their annual production in Pelsall, which is literally a few minutes away from my home. I was given a "seat of honour" in the centre of the front row and settled down to enjoy the production.

"The Yeomen Of The Guard" is set in 16th century England and is based around the Tower of London. As so often in Gilbert & Sullivan, we have a combination of complex plots, mixed up relationships and the enchanting mixture of the witty and at times, romantic lyrics of W.S. Gilbert with the delightful melodies of Sir Arthur Sullivan.

This was a most enjoyable production (the last time I saw "Yeomen" live was as a small boy in 1960's Northern Ireland) and everyone gave of their best and entertained us thoroughly. I am delighted that we have a society in our part of the world that is dedicated to keeping the work of Gilbert & Sullivan in the public eye and I hope that  this will continue for a long time to come. Many thanks to Maxine and Doreen for sorting out arrangements for me and here's to another excellent production next year.
