Corporate Tax in UAE has marked a significant shift in the country’s fiscal environment, transforming the UAE from a traditional tax-free zone to a modern economy aligning with global tax norms. Introduced for financial years beginning on or after 1 June 2023, the corporate tax regime aims to support economic growth, attract quality investment, and ensure transparency in business operations.

At its core, Corporate Tax in UAE is a direct tax imposed on the net profits of companies and other taxable entities operating within the Emirates. The standard rate is 9 % for taxable income exceeding AED 375,000, while profits below this threshold enjoy a 0 % tax rate, designed to support smaller businesses and startups.

This regime applies broadly — covering UAE-incorporated businesses, foreign entities with a permanent establishment in the UAE, and even Free Zone companies. Qualifying Free Zone Persons benefit from a 0 % corporate tax on qualifying income, although income that doesn’t meet qualifying criteria may be taxed at the standard 9 % rate.

There are notable exemptions under the Corporate Tax framework. Government entities, public benefit organisations, and extractive businesses may be exempt from tax obligations under certain conditions. Additionally, some categories of income, such as qualifying dividends and capital gains, can also avoid taxation under specific rules.

To comply with Corporate Tax in UAE, businesses must register with the Federal Tax Authority, maintain accurate accounting records, and file annual tax returns within the prescribed deadlines. Non-compliance can lead to penalties, making proactive tax planning and adherence to regulations essential for companies operating in the region.

Looking ahead, the corporate tax landscape in the UAE may evolve further — with potential adjustments to rates or global minimum tax alignment for large multinational enterprises. Understanding these developments will be key for businesses as they navigate the UAE’s dynamic economic environment in 2026 and beyond.
