Saudi Arabia announced on Friday lifts restrictions on ‘all carriers’ using its airspace, an apparent gesture of openness towards Israel. This comes ahead of US President Joe Biden’s arrival in Saudi Arabia.

Joe Biden is the first American President who will fly directly from Israel to Jeddah, Saudi Arabia, where he’s scheduled to meet top Saudi officials. The Saudi civil aviation authority “announces the decision to open the kingdom’s airspace for all air carriers that meets the requirements of the authority for overflying”.

This decision came after the Kingdom’s aimed at consolidating the Kingdom’s position as global hub connecting three continents. Prior to Biden’s arrival in Israel, Washington hints that more nations could take steps to pursue relations with Israel. There is speculation about that Riyadh would alter its long-held position of not establishing bilateral position until Palestinians is solved. This decision have immediate gains are likely to be incremental. Biden would travel directly from the Jewish state to Saudi Arabia becoming the first US president to fly from there to an Arab nation.

Israeli authorities also wants Muslim pilgrimages to travel to Israel directly to Saudi Arabia. There has been a ‘major change’ by Abraham Accords which announced Israeli aircrafts can En route to Abu Dabi and also announced that UAE flights to “all countries could overfly the kingdom”. Prince Mohammad have said that normalization with Israel as a positive indication.
