Germany’s capital Berlin witnessed chaotic scenes and violent brawls on Sunday as riot police forcefully disperse anti-lockdown rallies. Authorities had banned that after thousands took to the streets of Berlin.

• Coronavirus skeptics once again gathered in the center of the German capital. But the German authorities had banned as many as 16 protests by opponents of Covid-19 restrictions.
• According to police estimates, almost 5,000 people on Sunday joined several "spontaneous" demonstrations in various parts of the city. Earlier, the organizers of just one such demonstration, which was eventually banned, said that more than 22,000 people might attend it.
• The unauthorized processions quickly descended into violence as police in full riot gear attempted to block the crowds from marching along the city streets. 600 people have been arrested, according to a police spokesman citing preliminary data.
• Meanwhile, several hundred Israelis have demonstrated Tel Aviv against new coronavirus restrictions and vaccination as positive cases, and hospitalizations rise to levels not seen in months.
• On Saturday, the health ministry reported that 2,435 new Covid cases had been recorded the day before, the highest number since March driven by the more contagious Delta variant.
• American President Biden has announced new requirements for civilian federal employees in the US amid the surge in Covid-19 cases from the rapidly spreading Delta variant.
• Joe Biden said, “Every federal government employee will be asked to attest to their vaccination status. Anyone who does not attest, or is not vaccinated, will be required to mask no matter where they work, test one or two times a week to see if they’ve acquired COVID, socially distance, and generally will not be allowed to travel for work.”

However, anti-lockdown and anti-vaccination movements, commonly referred to as 'lateral thinkers,' in Germany have been active throughout the pandemic. They demand an end to the restrictions imposed by the government to combat the virus and are skeptical about vaccination.
