Crying in H Mart is the biography by musician and writer Michelle Zauner also known as Japanese Breakfast, is set to be adapted into a feature film.

MGM’s Orion Pictures has acquired the rights to adapt Michelle Zauner’s first book for the screen. MGM’s Orion Pictures has acquired the rights for the adaptation. 

This film will be produced by Stacey Sher and Jason Kim and the soundtrack will be formed by Japanese Breakfast.

In a statement Michelle Zauner said, 

“It is a surreal thrill to have the opportunity to memorialize my mother in the film, and I consider it of the highest honor to pursue that task alongside creative luminaries such as Stacey Sher, Jason Kim, and Orion Pictures.”

In 2018, Zauner published “Crying in H Mart” about her late mother and the memories of the titular Korean-American supermarket chain. 

She signed her book deal for Crying in H Mart, which finally got released in April 2021. It became debuting at number two on the New York Times nonfiction best-seller list.
