UNGA Votes for Russian Invasion Resolution
There has been a vote by UNGA to come up with a resolution of the Russian invasion of Ukraine. The UN’s General Assembly voted in favor of a resolution that “deplores” Russia’s invasion of Ukraine. Almost all the members were in favor when some did oppose. One hundred forty-one member countries, including the US, voted in favor whilst only five nations have opposed, who are- Russia, Belarus, Eritrea, North Korea, and Syria. Not all the members did participate in the voting as Thirty-five nations abstained from voting, including India, South Africa, and China. U.N. Secretary-General António Guterres talked about it after the vote.
Secretary-General António Guterres said, ‘The message of the General Assembly is loud and clear: end hostilities in Ukraine now. Silence the guns now. Open the door to dialogue and diplomacy now. The territorial integrity and sovereignty of Ukraine must be respected in line with the U.N. Charter.’
Ukrainian refugee is increasing thoroughly
The UN has reported since the Russian invasion started in Ukraine almost over a million people have already fled from the country last week and the number is increasing every day. If the scenario keeps going in that way, this could become the largest refugee crisis in the 21st century’s history. After the 2nd World War Europe hasn’t seen such a fast and mass migration. Almost 2% people of the whole Ukraine population has fled only within a week.
