Paul Simon and Art Garfunkel met each other while the production of 'Alice in Wonderland' at their school in 1953. The boys from Queens,New York, decided to sing under the name 'Tom & jerry'. At the age of 15, their first single 'Hey School Girl' was a minor hit. It helped Simon to sign a solo contract and Garfunkel felt betrayed. This led to their first split up.
They reunited again in 1963 and released their debut album 'Wednesday Morning, 3 a.m.' which was sold only 3000 copies. This failure made their path separate again.
Something amusing happened in 1966, two years after the release, their song 'Sound of Silence' hit billboard charts no.1.
They come back together and released 'Mrs. Robinson' which were featured in the classic film 'The Graduate'. Their last album 'Bridge Over The Troubled Water' came in 1970 and became the most selling album of the year. They also won the Grammy.
That year director Mike Nichols signed them for movie 'Catch-22'. Later Simon's role was cut from the script, but Garfunkel went ahead with his role. this led their final split up.
In 1990 their name was inducted in Rock & Roll Hall of Fame.
They decided to do a cross country tour in 2010. In the first show Garfunkel's voice gave out and the tour was cancelled. Simon never shared the stage with Garfunkel after that incident.
Recently Garfunkel said, "I'll be your friend when you're in trouble. Well, I'm in trouble now that I'm 78. Paul, If you're supposed to be my friend please give me a call"
Simon & Garfunkel, the most successful folk-rock band of all-time will always be loved by their audience.
