For over 60 years now, Sir Paul McCartney has been entertaing us, first as a member of the Beatles, later as the founder of Wings and also, as a solo artist in his own right. During this time, he has created an amazing legacy of music and song and the McCartney Songbook seeks to bring that to life in an amazing show which covers Paul's career from that first auspicious meeting with John Lennon in 1957 right up to the present day. It was a particular pleasure to see the show a few days before Paul's 82nd birthday and to hear again the songs of my childhood by the Beatles and my teenage years by Wings, along with perhaps less well known songs from Paul's solo albums. Pete Jackson gave a superb performance, taking all the lead vocals, as well as playing the iconic bass guitar left-handed and other guitars right-handed (I have never witnessed this on a stage before), as well as piano. All the musicians combined to add to an excellent sound and the atmosphere was electric as we were taken on our musical "Magical Mystery Tour" down through the years. We were clapping and singing along and at times, on our feet and dancing and the enthusiastic response of the audience was a fitting testament to the evening's entertainment.
This show is truly worth a watch and I hope that it isn't too long before I get the chance to see it again. Thanks as always to Chloe at Chameleon Music Marketing and the Marketing team at the Garrick for arranging this for me. and here's to the continued success of "The McCartney Songbook."
