On October 29, 2023, disaster struck when a portion of the under-construction highway tunnel in Uttarakhand’s Silkyara district caved in, trapping 41 workers inside. Rescue efforts were immediately launched, but the sheer magnitude of the debris and the unstable nature of the collapsed tunnel posed significant challenges. Heavy machinery proved ineffective in clearing the blockage, and time was running out for the trapped workers.
