ALEX NICOL – Releases Widescreen “Hollywood” Single || Taken from the ‘Been A Long Year Vol.1’ EP out now
Straight from the go the mood and tone of the song are both sombre yet uplifting, and at the same time. The opening lyrics “I’ll never go to Hollywood” acts as a form of metaphor for looking back on your life and realising that you’ve either accomplished very little or hardly anything at all. Yet the remainder of the lyrics aren’t without some metaphors about comfort as it’s about knowing that there’s always somewhere that you can find happiness.
Alex vocals are comforting even though there’s the expression of emptiness and sorrow. You’d have to listen a few times to actually appreciate how good it is

Fred Abbott & The Wild Unknown invite you into immersive ‘ambisonic’ listening with new single & video for – ‘Nothing Left’
An absolute beauty of a track, soft and completely melodic. Nothing Left ends as it begins, takes its time and doesn’t throw everything at you in one go. Something that is actually heartfelt about Fred’s voice is that it’s as though he’s singing to just you. Expressing feelings of sympathy, regret and things that he was unable to do. Through the music it’s a bit like an emotionally charged expression of memories and internal dialogue
Burr Island return with gorgeous folk-driven second single ‘Nunney Town’, featuring John McCusker
Now whether you have heard of these guys or not, what you cannot deny is that they know how to make a good record which is catchy from the start. Burr’s signature style of sound of country and acoustic just pours right out and makes an enjoyable track. Something that’s always fascinating about the songs is that they’re basically like a form of storytelling about their life and where they’re from
Arctic Monkeys – Why’d Only Call Me When You’re High
A good favorite of mine and they headlined Glastonbury Festival for the third time recently so it seemed only fitting to give them so attention.
Released back in 2013 Why’d You Only Call is one of those indie tunes that just seems too sick with you and whenever you hear it you instantly know it within the first few bars. An instant favorite within the indie scene Why’d You Only is about booty calls and contacting the Ex or current partner after a nighttime bender. That plus being prone to alcohol induced hallucinations. Your basic Friday night out
SOUTH BY ZERO – Indie-pop Risers Introduce – Open Arms | Single Out Now
All the way from the South Coast and they’ve gradually been making a name for themselves over the past few years, it’s South By Zero with their new song, Open Arms.
From the moment it starts the track is nice, upbeat and gradually gains energy as it goes. The lyrics though are parallel from the music. Arms is about navigating the complexity of relationships during adolescents. It’s quite a cleverly written one where you long for someone new but still pine over the ex.
It’s not actually a love song but is definitely one of those songs which has a positive vibe to it
